Chairman's
Report...
It is hard to believe that I
have almost completed my first year in office as Chairman of the LOF,
when I came into the Chair last April I felt honoured, apprehensive,
excited and very well aware of the challenge and volume of work
ahead of me.
The year has flown by –
largely because we were lucky enough to be selected by Sainsbury’s
Torquay as their chosen Charity of the year. This has meant that we
have worked together staging many events – car boot sales, bag
packs, sponsored cycle rides, a Santa Saunter and in March a fashion
Show. All the events have been well attended and together with the
Sainsbury’s team we have raised £5000.00 already. There are still
some events to go – so we still have more to do…..…. but we are up
for the challenge !
The events committee are
already planning various events once more and the big date for your
diary is Sun 3rd July – which will be the date of our summer Garden
Party and will again be in the beautiful grounds of the Palace
Hotel, Torquay, it really is a special day – so give yourself a day
off and come along.
Within the Hospital all our
volunteers continue to do a fabulous job – either in the Coffee
shop, the kiosk, taking the trolley around the various clinic
waiting areas or acting as guides for visitors. The Linen League
keep stitching and making invaluable items for the hospital and they
will soon be starting on the new canopies to brighten our stalls for
the Garden Party. Another volunteer – Geoff does a marvellous job
looking after our website – so if you are ‘connected’ do look at
THLOF.co.uk and keep up to date with all our news and key dates. The
newly ‘regenerated’ Junior League is already very active and we all
wish Tracey and her team great success, it is a pleasure to have
them on board.
I referred to challenging
times - it becomes harder and harder each year to rely on legacies
and donations to the League and as such the committees are facing
more and more of a challenge to offer events which are appealing and
of course at the right price to encourage your support.
As you are reading this
newsletter I may presume that you are already a member of the League
– if you are, then help us to spread the work about the wonderful
things we do in supporting Torbay Hospital – please become our
ambassadors and help to spread the word amongst your family, and
friends.. This could become your challenge and would be an
invaluable way helping us to have many more ‘Friends’.
There are very few people in this Bay whose life has not been
touched by the Hospital at some time or other and if you can
persuade just one or two to join the League then we can look forward
to even more future success. People do not have to become active on
committees – unless that is their forte – but just to have their
support by way of a donation of any amount they so choose – is a
great boost to our morale.
So – let’s work together for
the next six months and just see how we can raise the profile and
the respect for the wonderful work that the League do in supporting
Torbay Hospital. Elsewhere in this newsletter you can read about our
most recent gifts – of the latest equipment – to the Hospital, real
proof of how your money is spent.
I look forward to seeing you
at our various events – or at our AGM on the 28th April next and do
please come and say hello.
All good wishes to you all,
enjoy a beautiful Spring and a lovely summer.
Lynne
