The new Centre for Education, Innovation & Research

Visit the "Home" page for up-to-date news about this exciting project. The new Centre is extremely important because its purpose is to keep South Devon Healthcare at the leading edge of innovation and team working in Healthcare - which will be of great benefit to all patients across South Devon.

Trust's Ambulance Crews get a 'big lift' from the League

Four sets of Stair Climbers costing in the region of £20,000 have been given by the League of Friends for use by the Trust's ambulance crews.
These amazing battery operated chairs can transport someone who cannot walk up or down stairs, without the need for any lifting.
It will be more comfortable for the patient than being lifted, and very much easier for the crews - who frequently find themselves having to lift heavy people plus the weight of their wheelchairs up or down whole flights of stairs at their homes.
Each chair can accommodate someone weighing up to 25 stone, and can climb or descend between 300 and 500 steps before the battery needs re-charging.
Having four sets of the Stair Climbers means that they can be kept at locations across the South Devon area, from Teignmouth/Dawlish to Dartmouth, so they will be quite close at hand whenever they are needed unexpectedly.
Until now it has sometimes needed two ambulances and four crew members to attend at a patient's home in order to be able to carry them downstairs and into one of the ambulances.
League Chairman John Lindsay and League President Fred Payne handed over the equipment to the Patient Transport Service in September.
