They covered
about 75 miles
each day to make
the total of
1,000 miles.
At a
presentation
evening, Andrey
and his team
showed a short
video clip of
their long
journey which
gave a vivid
pictorial record
of the journey
across the full
length of the
country.
The League of
Friends had
contributed its
minibus as the
support vehicle
for the venture.
Presenting the
cheque to Lynne
Hooking,
chairman of the
League of
Friends, Andrey
said "Not only
was it an
amazing
experience, but
I am delighted
that my
colleagues and I
have been able
to undertake to
raise such a
significant
amount of money.
The League of
Friends have
been so generous
to Torbay
Hospital over so
many years and
it is wonderful
to contribute
towards this."
Lynne Hookings
thanked the team
for the
donation. She
added: "I am
extremely
grateful to all
the riders for
their hard work
and incredible
effort."
"The league is
coming up to
celebrating 60
years of fund
raising for
Torbay Hospital
in 2013 and it
is especially
nice to be
receiving money
from doctors at
the hospital
rather than the
other way
around!"
Those who
undertook the
sponsored ride
were Andrey
Varvinskiy and
Jeremy Ackers
(consultant
anaesthetists),
Mark Ashworth
and Stephen
Blake
(consultant
orthopaedic
surgeons),
Rupert Pullan
(general
surgeon) and
Jack Greenhalgh
(cardiac nurse).
